If you love Sarah J Maas then you would have for sure heard of The Crescent City Series! This series centres around Bryce Quinlan, a half-human/fae who is compelled to solve the grisly murder of her dear friend. The series is split over three fairly dense novels, so be ready to sit down with a cup of tea and get comfy!
The Good
This series is great for those who love books that feature snarky heroines, brooding warriors and loveable pet critters. Comparable to Maas’ other novels, it is packed full of romance, adventure, twists and turns. Bryce is an easy-to-like character. She is somewhat shunned amongst her peers for her heritage, but this does not stop her from living life her own way. We follow her as she investigates the corners of Crescent City with her angel partner Hunt Athalar and discover secrets buried so deep that history itself has forgotten it even existed.
I found myself unable to put the books down once I started. Maas’ writing does not disappoint in this latest series and it is one adventure after the other for our heroine who can’t seem to catch a break! For me, Maas does not seem to suffer from second book syndrome and that makes the trilogy even better.
The Not-So-Good
The book series starts off strong but personally, I found the storyline became complicated to follow about half way through the second book. What began as a simple mission suddenly got complicated real fast!
The characters remain as loveable as ever, but the plot does become much more complex and for me, I thought that it was slightly more convoluted than it needed to be. To each their own though!
My rating: 4/5
